Quick Low-Waste Tip! Every month or so I bake a cake that needs 3/4 cup orange juice. I don’t love buying a small plastic bottle but we never use up the larger amount that comes in a recyclable carton. This month, I bought the carton and froze baggies of 3/4 cup amounts, so I will have just the right amount when I need it. Baggies are either silicone or ziplocks being reused after a good washing. Now that (Mostly) No-Buy November is over, I can tell you how it went. TL;dr: pretty good, and my wallet is happy! Plus tips for resisting the siren song of marketing and advertising!

Saving nasturtium seeds to plant next spring couldn’t be easier. And seed-saving is a great low-waste activity because it saves the resources it takes to get the seeds to a store and from the store to your home *and* packaging. I was able to get enough seeds for next year just from what had fallen off my plants, but you can also pick seeds that are tan-colored off the plant. Set them on a piece of paper (junk mail is great for this) until fully dry. Store in a repurposed glass jar or business reply envelope you were going to toss in the recycling. Just be sure to label what they are!
